Feeding the babies

The babies have arrived!  The wren couple, whose nest building I posted about in June,  are proud parents of some very noisy and hungry babies.  I have watched and listened over the last several days as the wren parents have brought food to the nest.  I got my camera out and took a few pictures.
Yes, that's a baby's mouth you see!
But I really wanted the sound effects, too, so I got out the video camera.
The wren parents have been constantly flying to and from the nest, searching for and delivering insects and other wren food to the babes.  I couldn't help but think of those days when I was a nursing mother with a baby dependent on me for nourishment.  What a life of luxury that was, sitting in my comfortable chair, cuddling my baby!

I bet they are fun to watch! I think we have purple martins that have taken up residency in our birdhouse.

Oh little wrens are so small and they have such a beautiful birdsong and loud too. I heard your little ones - they certainly are practising. They are a joy to watch.

I love wrens! They are pretty entertaining to watch them nurture their young. They add so much to a garden with their fanciful song. They may not have the colorful foliage but they have voices that melt your heart.
