Was it a dream?

The cooler and dryer weather we enjoyed over the weekend seems like a dream now.  The high tomorrow is predicted to be 99 with a heat index even higher.  We've had almost no rain in weeks and none is predicted before the weekend.
But the bees, butterflies, and zinnias don't seem to mind the heat - in fact, they love it.

The heat is almost too much for the rest of us, though.

Heat, ma'am! it was so dreadful here, that I found there was nothing left for it but to take off my flesh and sit in my bones. ~Sydney Smith, Lady Holland's Memoir

Hi Ginny, we had a couple days of relatively cooler temps too, but today was back to Deep South grilling!

Your photos are lovely. One of the reasons I like zinnias is because butterflies like them so much. And another reason is because they can survive our summers!

So sorry about the heat and lack of rain Ginny. We've had 90+ temps the past few days, and things were getting pretty dry. I'm glad for the good soaking rain we had yesterday. This is good weather for staying inside and enjoying air conditioning! Your zinnias are lovely, and it looks like they're popular with the pollinators.

I am so crazy about zinnias! There are so many wonderful types and you can't beat the color. We had the same temperature pattern you've had...back to HOT today. You always have good quotes in your posts. I especially like the one at the bottom of this post.
