"The Lily is an herbe with a white flower; and though the leaves of the floure be white,
yet within shineth the likeness of gold."
Barthololmeus Anglicus, the thirteenth century
The Easter lily (Lilium longiflorum) is a symbol of hope, beauty, and life.
These lilies were placed at the foot of the altar in my church on Easter Sunday 2010.
I later planted them in the garden and this week they are in glorious bloom.

I have often wondered how those would do if planted after Easter, now I know, they look great!
Beautiful! Great idea to plant them - and their blooming the next year is a wonderful reminder of the Easter message.
Very pretty. I, too, have wondered how these would do planted.
and they have such a heavenly smell...we always bought my mom an Easter lily for Easter...it was one of her favorite things...
Yes, glorious bloom is a great way to describe it! I have a feeling the rabbits in my garden would find them very tasty. They tend to eat the one Stargazer Lily I have planted--I think I need to put a taller cage around it!
Beautiful! Easter lilies have simple, but elegant beauty. I like the old world quote - it is a perfect description.
Wonderful pictures, such a pure glowing white. You captured the lily beautifully, it was a treat to see this post.
I would sure like to try those too - they look just beautiful!
Longiflorum has to be well up there as the most beautiful Lily. I have had it in the garden and it flowered very well, but just for two seasons. Your photos are just magnificent.
