"O the green things growing"

"O the green things growing, the green things growing,
The faint sweet smell of the green things growing!
- Dinah Maria Mulock Craik, Green Things Growing

The green in the garden grows by the minute in the month of April.
"New Dawn", the climbing rose, is full and promising.
The fiddleheads of the ferns stand proudly waiting to unfurl their fronds.
The spearmint and peppermint are filling up a bed once home to several other herbs.
By the end of the summer flowers will surround the birdbath with color, as it did last summer.
But now the new green growth is fresh and peaceful and welcome.
The knock-out rose will be blooming soon
and the green of sassafras leaves will stand out against the blue sky.
The trees just leafing out are myriad shades of green, pink, and white
with the dogwoods at their peak.
I feel as though Spring has blown me a kiss.
Do you feel it, too?

After the rain

It rained all day yesterday - much needed rain for the plants and to wash away the pollen.  This morning the sun was shining and the garden was beautiful.  I would have liked to have spent the entire day working outside, but staying home from work wasn't an option, so I made myself feel a little better by taking a couple of pictures before I left.
