A whimsical whirligig

Six years ago,  for my birthday, my husband gave me a Vollis Simpson Whirligig.
Simpson's Whirligigs are on display all over the country in museums and public spaces.   He's a local artist who began creating his whirligigs in retirement, erecting them on his property in Wilson County.   The New York Times recently published a wonderful article on Simpson, as well as  a slideshow of some of his creations.  Needless to say, I'm proud to have an original in my back yard.
This past week my husband finished painting the two adirondack chairs we bought over Memorial Day weekend.   They're just right flanking the whirligig in the back corner in front of the fence.  And in case you're wondering, the whirligig really does spin when the wind blows (and it does get wind, even in this somewhat protected corner).
And here's the view from the chairs. . .
The loss of the trees from behind the fence on the right isn't so obvious from this perspective.

Ginny, How special to have a Simpson whirligig! I love it. You have the perfect place for it, too, looks like. Very pretty.

Ginny, I love your blog! You have a beautiful garden. i think your whirligig is a special piece of art. I would be inordinately proud of it! The blue chairs are perfect. I can imagine sitting there with a glass of lemonade, taking in the lovely scenery!
